Terra Media
An Artistic Research Project by Eugenia Bakurin & Pola Rader
Terra Media is an artistic research project by MulticArts (Pola Rader and Eugenia Bakurin), developed between 2021 and 2025. The project investigates how immersive technologies can expand the language of storytelling by transforming narratives into spatial, interactive experiences.
Situated at the intersection of contemporary media art, digital technologies and audience participation, Terra Media explores the relationship between physical presence, perception and narrative. The installation invites visitors to navigate responsive environments in which their movement, decisions and curiosity become integral elements of the experience.
Drawing on the symbolic language of fairy tales and myths, Terra Media examines universal human themes—including transformation, memory, forgiveness and letting go. These archetypal narratives are translated into immersive audiovisual spaces where meaning emerges through exploration rather than explanation.
The project combines real-time 3D graphics, interactive projection systems, 360° video, mixed reality and custom-developed software with handcrafted artistic aesthetics. Digital media and physical space merge into a unified environment that encourages intuitive interaction and emotional engagement while exploring new possibilities for immersive artistic expression.
Rather than treating technology as spectacle, Terra Media approaches emerging media as an artistic medium capable of creating meaningful, embodied experiences. Through the interplay of image, space, sound and interaction, the project investigates how immersive environments can deepen perception and reshape the relationship between artwork and audience.
The prototype phase was successfully completed in 2025 with the support of MOIN Film Fund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein.
Following its completion, Terra Media was presented in a week-long public exhibition at K34 Galerie in Kiel, Germany, in spring 2025. The installation welcomed a broad audience, including kindergarten groups, school classes, families and organized educational excursions, providing valuable insights into visitor interaction and participatory engagement across different age groups.
